2026-03-17 - modernizing cli utilities

again, haven't been writing here much. why not ramble for a minute so people in the tiny web have something to read in their downtime.

i just replaced sed with sd. sd is so much simpler (which means better) for cli find and replace tasks.

it uses modern regex by default

i'm wondering how i can be a little more active online without spending too much time on it. not sure.

i deleted my linked-in a few years ago. haven't felt regret since. i saw a random tweet, i think from a dev at opencode, that said the best thing you can do for your career development is to get away from linkedin. lol.

random thought on llms:

i have run into reasoning constraints even with claude opus 4.6 (current SOTA model)
i find they cannot speed up thinking/designing a solution
however they are fantastic for getting ballpark estimates
llms are great for throwaway code and unimportant grunt work

i don't have negative views with llms. i was a little scared at the beginning. i'm imagining a future 10 years for now where we have starwars like R2D2s and C3POs, where they are close to human, but not quite there and still have their little quirks.

that's it for now. maybe i'll do this again!
